NCSA Board, Regional Representative- Gulf Coast

I am from Monroe, Louisiana. I am married to Eddie Hakim and have four children: Abraham, Leah, Jack, and Joseph. Abraham and Jack attend Tulane University, Leah attends Rollins College and Joseph is in high school. I graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. My oldest child, Abraham, lost his hearing when he contracted meningitis when he was just over a year old. Soon after, in November of 1987, I attended the first National Cued Speech Association Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana and learned how to cue. In 1990 Abraham was implanted with a cochlear implant. I have been an advocate for my son as well as for other hearing-impaired children. I have hosted a Cued Speech Workshop for parents in Monroe and have attended cue camps in Louisiana, North Carolina, Virginia, and New York. I have spoken to classes at the local university about Cued Speechand am a certified instructor of Cued Speech. I look forward to co-serving with Barbara LeBlanc as the Gulf Coast Regional Director.
