Anne is the mother of two boys.
She holds two bachelor degrees from Rutgers University, one
in civil engineering the other in business administration.
In addition to serving as the co-director of the New England
region for NCSA, Anne is the treasurer for the Cued Speech
Association of Maine, a member of the Advisory Council for
the State of Maine Division of Deafness, and an advocate for
her son.
In May 1996 Anne’s oldest son Ryan was diagnosed at
the age of 18 months with a bilateral severe to profound hearing
loss. He was fitted with bilateral hearing aids. In researching
communication options Anne discovered cued speech. It was
very important to Anne and her husband Jeff that Ryan develop
the ability to read on par with his hearing peers, be independent,
know no limits to what he was capable of doing, and have the
ability to communicate with anyone in any situation on his
own. From what they learned cued speech would give Ryan the
tools he needed to do that and it was the right choice for
him and the entire family. The family learned to cue in August
1996 at Cue Camp New England in Maine.
In May 2006 Ryan was implanted with a cochlear implant in
his right ear, he continues to wear a hearing aid in his left
ear. In September 2007 Ryan entered 8th grade, he has always
been mainstreamed in local schools with hearing peers. He
is an honor roll student that loves to read. His reading and
all other academic skills are on or above grade level. Ryan
is on the school soccer team, plays on a local baseball team,
is a member of the local YMCA swim team, participates in a
book club, is on the school’s computer support team,
wellness committee, drama club and played the trumpet in the
school band. |
