2016 Cornett Scholarship Winner
Thomas SalviThe NCSA is proud to announce that Thomas Salvi of Fairfax, VA, is the 2016 recipient of the Dr. R. Orin Cornett Scholarship.
Thomas has been using Cued Speech as his primary mode of communication since he was an infant.
“I hope to serve as an ambassador for the Cued Speech community.”
Thomas attended Canterbury Woods Elementary School and Woodson High School. He is interested in government and politics and was captain of the school Varsity Soccer team.
Despite a senior year injury, Thomas was recruited to play on the Gallaudet Soccer team.
He hopes to be the first Cuer on the Deaf national Soccer Team, where he can travel the world and educate others about Cued Speech. Thomas will be a ttending Gallaudet University where he will pursue a pre-Law degree in preparation for his goal of becoming an attorney.
“Cued Speech has allowed me to get full access to everything I needed without any restrictions or limitations and has helped me to grow into the person I am today. Without Cued Speech, I wouldn't have been as successful.
“I am forever grateful and blessed that Cued Speech was a part of my life and will continue to be a part of my life. I am excited to attend Gallaudet University and perhaps be the person on campus to spread awareness about Cued Speech and what it has to offer.
“I am looking forward to educate some of my new teammates about this amazing gift because what better way to make friends than by teaching them a great way to com municate using Cued Speech."
